Child Study Team
The following is provided for your information and is taken directly from the New Jersey Special Education Law as referred to as “Chapter 14: Special Education New Jersey Administration Code: Title, 6A Education”.
Child Study Team Members… shall be responsible for identification, evaluation, determination of eligibility, development and review of the individualized education program and placement.
Child Study Team Members:
- Shall participate in the evaluation of students who may need special program and services according to N.J.A.C.., 6A:14-3.3 and 3.4:
- Shall participate in the determination of eligibility of students for special education programs and services according to N.J.A. C. .,6A:14-3.5:
- May provide services to the educational staff with regard to techniques, material and programs. Services include, but not limited to, the following:
- Consultation with school staff and parents:
- Training of school staff: and
- The design, implementation and evaluation of techniques addressing academic and behavioral difficulties.
- May deliver appropriate related services to students with disabilities.
- May provide preventative and support services to non-disabled students; and;
- May participate on Intervention and Referral Services teams pursuant to N.J.A.C. 6A:16-8.
Child Study Team Members may act as case managers. The case managers shall:
- Be knowledgeable about the student’s educational needs and program
- Be knowledgeable about special education procedures and procedural safeguards
- Have an apportioned amount of time for case management responsibilities
- Be responsible for transition planning
*PLEASE NOTE THAT STUDENTS MUST RECEIVE INTERVENTION THROUGH THE INTERVENTION AND REFERRAL SERVICES (I&RS) COMMITTEE TO ADDRESS THEIR EDUCATIONAL NEEDS PRIOR TO BEING EVALUATED BY THE CHILD STUDY TEAM.
